All sorts of funny thoughts
The Old Grey Donkey, Eeyore, stood by himself
well apart, his head on one side, and thought
about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to
himself, “Why?” and sometimes he thought,
“Wherefore?” and sometimes he thought,
“Inasmuch as which?” and sometimes he
didn't quite know what he was thinking about.
Halfway up the stairs
Isn’t up,
And isn’t down.
It isn’t in the nursery,
It isn’t in the town
And all sorts of funny thoughts
Run round my head:
“It isn’t really
Anywhere!
It’s somewhere else
Instead!”
Our thoughts are sometimes our greatest enemy. It has long
been known that too much thinking makes one unhappy, but
how to avoid it? Staying busy is usually the best medicine but
sometimes even staying busy isn't enough. Those sneaky
thoughts creep into your head whether you invite them in or
not. I am at a loss here and have found no answer yet as
to how I can attain a quiet mind. Like Eeyore, I find myself
whying and whereforing and before I know where I am, I am so depressed
that I can hardly manage to make a cup of tea. I keep looking
for ways to keep my head quiet and yet ways of running my mind
around keep finding me. There is a saying: "Sometimes I sits and
thinks and sometimes I just sits." I wish for more times for just
sitsing.
