Everything touches

[There is a] late nineteenth century Hasidic tale about a rebbe
who told his followers, “Everything that has been created in
God’s world has a lesson to teach us.”
Thinking that the rebbe was engaging in hyperbole, one of his
followers called out, :”And what can we learn from the train?”
“That because of being one minute late,” the rebbe answered,
“you can loose everything.”
“And from the telegraph?”
“That for every word you pay.”
“And from the telephone?”
“That what is said here, is heard there.”

Cause and effect no matter how prevalent it is in our lives seem sometimes to go right over our heads. We ‘forget’ that every single thing has consequence. Every action has a reaction and every word written or spoken has an effect. I know by writing these words now I am affecting not only my own life but also the lives of several other people. The words may mean nothing to any of the readers and then again they may mean something to every eye that reads them. I am learning at the moment to find the Sacred in everyday life. The first step on the path is finding it in ‘Things’ and yes here the phone, the telegraph and the train proves to us that every thing affects another. You affect all those around you, your words and actions have impact and that impact has an influence on the whole of the universe in the long run. Everything is inter connected, everything touches.
