Laura Martin, Cameron Martin
R123.00
Noted nature crafter Laura Martin has created a fantasy for fairy-lovers. Its conceit involves a botanist, Christine Newkirk, who has discovered five tiny houses on a magical island, all made from natural materials on a perfect fairy scale—the houses are no more than 18 inches high, beds are 2 x 3 inches, shoes are 1 inch long. She documents her finds in a field diary she is keeping for her granddaughter.
The woodland cottage is filled with bent twig furniture. The Japanese house displays bamboo slippers outside the door, and the beach house has a minute bath tiled with seashells. Each spread is filled with photos and drawings of these tiny objects, all identified with their botanical names.
To leaf through these pages is to enter another world and dwell in it—the world of fantasy that has fascinated people through the ages.
Pierre Dubois
£14.34 / $16.38
They are known as the Little People, the Beautiful Maidens, the Godmothers, the Blessed, the Ageless Ones... for it is dangerous to say the name "faeries" without good reason. Ruling over earth, air, fire, and water, they protect forests, animals, and children, and in their hands lie the dreamy souls of all creatures.
The faeries rose from the mist long, long ago, in the time of the Golden Age -- well before the creation of gods and men. In their magical fancy they created the singing grasses and the reflection of springs, the music of legends and the far side of the mirror. From the Valkyries of Valhalla to the Babouchka of Russia, Banshees, Dryads, Bogey Beasts, Sirens, and their ilk populate the imaginations and the forests of every culture.
In this comprehensive celebration of the world of faery, renowned French elficologist Pierre Dubois describes the extraordinary richness of the faery kingdom, presenting dozens and dozens of lushly illustrated entries on the most powerful and enchanting denizens of this magical world. Dubois provides readers with authoritative information detailing the customs, habitat, and activities of these Little People. Faery Godmothers, we discover, were originally tall, distinguished, and rather severe; only recently have they taken up the magic wands and cheerful smiles we know them for today. We learn that the favorite foods of the Arthurian faery Viviane are the blackberries that surround Merlin's tomb. And among the customs and activities of the Bogey Beast, the prime goal is indeed to scare little children...if only for their protection.
Dubois's entrancing descriptions are accompanied by Roland and Claudine Sabatier's marvelous illustrations, which depict the appearance of the faeries, the places where they are found, and their familiar objects. Without revealing any faery confidences (which must never be betrayed), Dubois and the Sabatiers have created a comprehensive and utterly enchanting survey of a magical world as old as time.

Cassandra Eason
R144.00
If you have ever believed in a world beyond the everyday, this is the book to help you find it.
A Complete Guide to Faeries and Magical Beings is a wonderful companion for those who wish to tour an enchanted world. Cassandra Eason begins with the myths, legends, and real evidence surrounding the origins and existence of fairies and then takes us on a journey throughout the world to introduce us to the many different varieties of these mysterious beings.
From fairies to viking giants, selkies to gnomes, fey beings abound. In this spritely volume, Eason shares fascinating anecdotes of people who have actually seen them. And if you’d like to meet them yourself, Eason also provides simple techniques, exercises, and rituals to attract, find, and communicate with the little people. Hang silver bells by a window. Keep potted plants in your home. Or sit quietly between two oaks at dusk or dawn.
Fairyland mirrors universal human issues: fortune versus misfortune, fate versus free will, perfection and imperfection, illusion and objective reality, different time scales, the existence of parallel dimensions, and the duality of human nature. Some people even believe that fairies are becoming more visible again, as they were in pre-industrial days, to remind us of the consequences of consumer society — the danger of being seduced by our own versions of fairy gold.

Edwina Von Stetina
R161.00
In 1875, Edwina Von Stetina, a young naturalist from London, unexpectedly inherited Mewingham Manor, the isolated country home of her seafaring uncle, Captain Bartholomew Katt. Edwina never met Katt - the black sheep of the family - but she heard many stories about the mysterious estate that he filled with exotic species collected in his travels.
This journal is the remarkable chronicle of Edwina's first year at Mewingham Manor as she discovers the secrets of Katt's lifetime work: the delightful miniature winged cats called Flittens, and their mischievous tagalongs, the tiny flying Mice.
In the storytelling tradition of Gnomes and Dinotopia, a fantastic new world comes to life through Von Stetina's fanciful depiction of a never-before-seen species.

No home should be without it.
I love this book as always Brian Froud delivers a
wonderful book.
"Once upon a time, I thought faeries lived only in books, old folktales, and the past. That was before they burst upon my life as vibrant, luminous beings, permeating my art and my everyday existence, causing glorious havoc...."
In the long-awaited sequel to the international bestseller Faeries, artist Brian Froud rescues pixies, gnomes, and other faeries from the isolation of the nursery and the distance of history, bringing them into the present day with vitality and imagination. In this richly imagined new book, Brian reveals the secrets he has learned from the faeries -- what their noses and shoes look like, what mischief and what gentle assistance they can give, what their souls and their dreams are like.
As it turns out, faeries aren't all sweetness and light. In addition to such good faeries as Dream Weavers and Faery Godmothers, Brian introduces us to a host of less well behaved creatures -- traditional bad faeries like Morgana le Fay, but also the Soul Shrinker and the Gloominous Doom. The faery kingdom, we find, is as subject to good and evil as the human realm. Brilliantly documenting both the dark and the light, Good Faeries/Bad Faeries presents a world of enchantment and magic that deeply compels the imagination.

This book claims to be the facsimile edition of the notebook of Lady Angelica Cottington, who, it is said, took the infamous photograph of a group of fairies that was authenticated by Conan Doyle, but later discredited. Lady Cottington was determined to prove the existence of fairies, and began to capture them between the pages of her notebook, in which she had previously pressed wild flowers. In the introduction to the book, it is explained that one of Lady Cottington's notebooks was recently discovered, intact and in good condition, and has been reproduced complete with biographical information about the near-reclusive Lady Cottington, and a photograph of her holding the original book between the pages of which so many fairies, goblins, pixies and elves were unceremoniously flattened and preserved for ever. What Lady Cottington did not realise was that the actual fairies were unharmed; as they are made of astral matter, only their psychic images remained on the pages and the fairies grew to enjoy the game, leaping between the closing pages in an effort to outdo each other to produce the most imaginative and (it has to be said) outrageous poses. This is a hilarious, imaginative and highly creative record of the fairies caught by Lady Cottington, and of the disruptive influence they had on her otherwise sheltered life, all of which is painstakingly recorded in her personal diary. A revised edition to include eight additional pages, a new introduction by Terry Jones and Brian Froud, new digitization and design for pages, endpapers and cover as appropriate including new pressed fairy images; a DVD and a new sticker. DVD to include previously unreleased material from the Cottington Archive: a Pressed Fairy art gallery, interviews with Brian Froud, Terry Jones and Ari Berk and 5-minute filmed interview with Lady Cottington. DVD to be produced by Imaginosis.
